Client: Millennium Hotel Group

In 2015, Aircon won a contract to replace thirteen Hitachi water chillers at the five star Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington.

The project was undertaken in two phases, with 2 Megawatts of chillers being replaced on the roof of this landmark, thirteen storey 5-star hotel.

After conducting surveys of the chilled water system, our engineers produced detailed plan and section drawings for all mechanical connections, schematics and power wiring drawings. Much of the pipework was then prefabricated from the drawings, prior to being lifted to the roof.

During the planning phase, our specialists identified risk areas, walking through the program and identifying mechanical and electrical issues. We paid close attention to the craneage day schedule, determining the best crane set-up points and minimizing the number of lifts.

In phase 2, nine chillers were lifted to the roof from two positions in a six hour window. Steelwork alterations were conducted as each chiller was lifted, while extra personnel were employed to manage traffic and hotel customers to ensure no member of the public was at risk at any time during the operation.

This project had a fast track turnaround, with two weeks loss of cooling to certain areas of the hotel.
