In Spring 2015, Aircon Installations Ltd won a contract to replace three air cooled water chillers at Brown’s 5 Star Hotel in Green Park, London. The contract required us to install two Daikin air-cooled water chillers with a combined duty of 600kW.
The contract required major alterations to the primary and secondary pipework layout; incorporating primary pumps in the chillers and installing two large buffer vessels in the revised primary circuit.
New 400amp power cables were run from the basement switchroom to a new roof-based distribution panel. In order to avoid any disruption to hotel operations, three crane lifts were used so that no materials were taken through the hotel itself and abseillers were used to install the new cables in the lightwell.
The new chillers, buffer vessels and glycol feeder unit were supported by in-house designed, galvanized steel beams, including thirty metres of raised walkways and platforms in the roof enclosure and pump room. The entire works were completed with a total cooling downtime of just under two weeks.
